The town of Matmata will welcome you with open arms. Built at the foot of a mountain, this fabulous Berber village will offer you the sight of its lunar lanscape, and its giant craters, that served for the decors of the “Star Wars” movie series and the “Adventurers of the Lost Ark” by filmmaker Steven Spielberg. Visit the Troglodyte cave dwellings. Following lunch, depart for El Hamma, a small city, reknowned for its hot springs that date back to the Roman Empire. Short stop at the typical spice market and the basketry. Continue to Douz, the Saharian gate opening onto a bewitching desert where the sand wind sculpts regularly wavy dunes, and where oases spring out of nowhere, lost islands in an ocean of sand. Enjoy a camel ride (optional and with supplement), a memorable moment in the immensity of fine sand desert. Admire the spectacular sunset on the dunes. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Oasis Kebili**** (or similar). |
